It is still lithium-ion

LiFePO4 is a lithium-ion chemistry, not an alternative to one — the iron phosphate cathode is what differs. Comparisons that treat them as separate families obscure that the charging rules and the need for a battery management system are broadly shared.

Cycle life is the headline

Several thousand cycles against a few hundred changes the arithmetic completely for anything charged daily. A house battery cycled once a day lasts years rather than months, which is why the extra weight is irrelevant when the battery is bolted down.

Neither likes charging in the cold

Charging any lithium cell below freezing plates lithium onto the anode and permanently damages it. LiFePO4 is safer in most respects but not this one — systems used in cold climates need a heater or a BMS that refuses to charge cold.

Check before you swap. Batteries with similar dimensions are not always interchangeable. Always verify voltage, chemistry and the requirements printed in your device manual before fitting a replacement.
