USB-A vs USB-C
Connector shapes, not speeds. USB-C is reversible, carries up to 240 W and can tunnel video; USB-A is the legacy rectangle.
These are connector shapes. USB-A is the flat rectangle that has been on computers for decades and only goes in one way up. USB-C is the small oval that goes in either way, and it is what almost everything new uses. Beyond the shape, USB-C can do much more: far higher speeds are possible, it can carry video, and it can deliver enough power to charge a laptop. USB-A cannot do any of that beyond modest charging.

The shape is not the speed
A USB-C cable is not automatically fast. The connector supports high speeds; whether a given cable delivers them depends on what is inside it. Plenty of USB-C charging cables run at 480 Mbps.
Why 24 pins
The extra contacts are what let one port carry data, video and high-wattage power, and negotiate between them. That flexibility is the whole point of the design, and the reason a single port can now replace four.
Adapters are fine, mostly
A-to-C cables and adapters work well for charging and data. What they cannot do is conjure features the A end never had, so an adapter will not get you video out or laptop-grade charging.
Check before you swap. Batteries with similar dimensions are not always interchangeable. Always verify voltage, chemistry and the requirements printed in your device manual before fitting a replacement.
